About the Role
CEA is seeking a Senior Associate to primarily support climate-related engagements within out Philanthropic Services Practice Area. The successful candidate will lead the day-to-day management of complex consulting engagements for clients, including large environmentally-focused foundations, family offices, NGOs, impact investors, and bilateral and multilateral agencies.
Our work environment is collaborative, intensive, and likely to require travel (when deemed safe). The position requires intellectual rigor; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; strong research, analysis, and writing capacity; an ability to synthesize findings from a range of different kinds of information; independence; project management; attention to detail; and a passion for climate solutions and environmental issues. Qualifications
While each consultant at CEA brings different skills and lived experiences to their work, desired skills and experiences include the following:
- A Bachelor’s degree and five plus years of work experience; an advanced degree (e.g., MBA, MS, Ph.D.) is a plus.
- Deep content knowledge and professional interest relating climate change science and policy, energy policy, energy transition, and/or climate justice.
- Degrees and/or work experiences that include training in research methods (quantitative and/or qualitative), leading small teams, and working on multiple assignments concurrently.
- Experience leading projects where there is a defined scope of work, a budget, and a client. Prior consulting experience is preferred.
- Experience with grantmaking, including the creation of strategies and theories of change, pipeline development, due diligence, structure grant agreements, and writing grant memos.
- Exceptional writing ability across different mediums and for different audiences.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft’s Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint. Proficiency in other analytical software (e.g., GIS, Tableau) is a plus.
- Proficiency in qualitative research methods (e.g., interviews, expert consultation, case studies) and analytical tools (e.g., qualitative data analysis software)
- Excellent verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills, including effectively communicating across internal teams and with external stakeholders.
- Ability to work, multitask, and prioritize to meet deadlines and respond and adapt to changing client needs.
- Ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion and interact with a wide range of stakeholders (e.g., scientists, policymakers, advocates, and industry representatives) with diplomacy and enthusiasm.
- Other content knowledge that will support CEA’s work includes ocean conservation, marine fisheries management, land preservation, sustainable agriculture, community-led conservation measures, freshwater management, forestry, environmental justice, and/or air quality, a plus.
- Professional proficiency in a foreign language and demonstrated cultural competency are a plus.
Work Location
CEA’s office is located in San Francisco, and about half of the team works remotely on a permanent basis. Our strong preference is for this position to work from our San Francisco office, but remote candidates will be considered.
Compensation and Benefits
We offer competitive salaries, excellent health benefits, additional benefits for those working out of the SF office (e.g., commuter benefits and weekly lunches), and a supportive working environment. Salary will be commensurate with skills and experience. The base salary range for Senior Associate’s at CEA is $100,000 - $140,000. Additionally, CEA offers an annual performance bonus, revenue sharing, and the opportunity to earn additional bonuses thrice a year when work exceeds billable hour targets. CEA also typically provides raises to all staff annually, usually above COLA. Therefore, altogether, the target total compensation for this role is in the mid-to-high $100,000s.

Geo Bridge provides a bridge experience for recent STEM undergraduates who are taking a gap year but have an interest in pursuing graduate school or job opportunities in the geosciences (Atmospheric, Earth, Ocean and Polar Science). We leverage the resources of our REU program and NOAA Cooperative Science Center as well as, partnerships with the American Geophysical Union (AGU) and NOAA Education to facilitate GeoBridge.
This year the program is scheduled to run Jun 6-Dec 2, 2022. Students will spend their first ten weeks conducting research within our REU program and after a short post-REU break, will participate in our Fall NOAA Cooperative Science Center student activities.
Our student support includes the following:
1. $10,000 stipend.
2. Funding to cover room and board.
3. Research funding.
4. Support to attend the annual SACNAS conference via NSF Geo-Futures
5. Support to attend AGU, AMS, ASLO or similar geoscience conferences.

temperature, wireless network, sensible and latent heat fluxes, etc)
Contribute to the GIS mapping of London:
Contribute to the modelling of the storage heat flux, sensible heat flux, latent heat
flux, anthropogenic heat flux
Effectively communicate and collaborate with project partners to facilitate cross
disciplinary research with the international colleagues
Contribute to the preparation of reports and articles to achieve milestones and
deliverables (journal articles, conference presentations, materials for workshops etc),

Post Doc
A fixed term (24 month) appointment for a scientist to work on the URBANFLUXES
(URBan Anthropogenic heat FLUX from Earth observation Satellites) and other closely
related projects. This project is funded by the European Union Horizon 2020. The main
goal of the project is to investigate the potential of Earth Observation (EO) to retrieve
anthropogenic heat fluxes at local and city scales. The project will involve determination of
each of the urban energy balance fluxes using a number of different techniques. The project
involves an international consortium that will work closely together to fulfil the research
objectives. The post will be based in the Department of Meteorology, University of
Reading, UK.

Postdoctoral Researcher or Ph. D. student in South Dakota
A postdoctoral researcher or Graduate Research Associate (Ph.D. student) position is available immediately at the Department of Plant Science of South Dakota State University working on a switchgrass biomass project. Project focuses on assessing influences of N management on biofuel crops (crop and biomass yields), soil properties and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Selected candidate will be responsible in collaboration with other staff in field sampling including harvesting of biofuel crops, soil sampling and monitoring of GHG fluxes, and engage with other current projects. Postdoctoral researcher will also be responsible for modeling GHG fluxes using biogeochemical models. Skills in monitoring GHG emissions, GIS and remote sensing, process-based modeling, and computer programming will be a plus. Selected candidates will engage in writing grant proposals and peer-reviewed manuscripts and encouraged to attend (at least one per year) professional meetings to present their findings. The hired researcher will be encouraged to collaborate with a team of agronomists, ecological scientists, engineers and modelers. Salary will be based on qualifications, and previous research and field experiences. This position will be appointed on yearly basis, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding availability. Gothenburg University Seeks One Researcher
The Göteborg Urban Climate Group (UCG) at Gothenburg University (Sweden) seeks one researcher that will work within the research project "Potential impact of climate trends and weather extremes on outdoor thermal Comfort in European cities - implications for sustainable urban design". The objectives of the project are to study the potential impact of climate trends, heat waves and cold spells on outdoor thermal comfort in European cities, and to develop design principles to help maintain health and thermal comfort in a changed climate. The project is financially supported by the European collaborations program Urban-Net, and involves scientists from urban and regional climatology, geography, biometerorology, health, landscape architecture and urban and regional planning.
Work description
Analyse the influence of weather, climate and urban characteristics on outdoor thermal comfort using results from down-scaled climate scenarios and micro-scale radiation modelling.
Write scientific papers based on the findings from the analysis mentioned above.
Take part in the activities within UCG such as scientific meetings, supervision (graduate and undergraduate students), field measurement campaigns etc.
